LONGVIEW, WA – On Monday, May 25, the Lane Titans baseball magical run in the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) Championship tournament came to an end against the Lower Columbia Red Devils.
After several rain delays, the game got underway with the Titans taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd inning when Jalen Riddle hit a double that scored Cody Roletto. Lane catcher Trevor Devincenzi hit his first career home run in the 3rd inning.
The Red Devils blew the game open when they scored six runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning and took a 7-2 lead. It was all Lower Columbia the rest of the game. The Red Devils won, 12-2, and secured their 16th baseball championship.
For the Titans, they made history when they advanced to the second round for the first time since 2004–which was their last appearance in the title game, as well.
The Titans finished the season 39-17. They recorded the second most hits (509) in the NWAC with the third best batting average (.290). Quinton Olson led the NWAC with 74 hits (19 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs). Roletto (67) finished third and Peyton Tyner recorded 63 hits, good for 6th in the NWAC.
Caleb Malloy (8) and Sam Wilson (7) finished second and third, respectively, in the NWAC for most saves this season.
