EUGENE, OR – On Saturday, May 16, the Lane Titans qualified for the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) Championships in Longview, WA beginning on Thursday, May 21.
The Lane Titans powered past the Bellevue Bulldogs in a two-game sweep in Eugene, winning 10-2 on Friday and 8-1 on Saturday behind strong pitching and an even stronger offense. Lane totaled 18 runs and 26 hits in the series while limiting Bellevue to just three runs.
On Friday, the Bulldogs defeated the Yakima Valley Yaks, 12-8, to set up a best-of-three series vs. the Titans.
Sophomore Donnie Morgan led the offensive charge, going 5-for-9 with a home run, double, five RBIs, four runs scored and a stolen base across the two games. Nolan Donivan finished 4-for-8 with four doubles and four RBIs, while Peyton Tyner went 4-for-9 with an RBI and a run scored. Jalen Riddle added a combined 3-for-8 effort with a double and three RBIs. Austin Takahashi scored three runs during the series, and Sebastian Contreras crossed the plate twice in Friday's opener.
On the mound, Griffin Scott earned the Game 1 win after allowing 2 runs on 5 hits over 7.0 innings with 4 strikeouts. Lucas Geren followed with 6.0 innings Saturday, giving up one run and four hits while striking out four. Sam Wilson closed the series with 3.0 scoreless innings and 4 strikeouts as Lane completed the convincing sweep.
The Titans are scheduled to play East Region No. 1 seed Spokane Sasquatch at 4:35 p.m. on Thursday, May 21 in Longview. For more information, visit the NWAC Championships Central.
