EUGENE, OR -- On Thursday, April 2, the Lane Titans baseball team took down the visiting Clark Penguins in the first installment of a four-game, two-day series. The Titans won Game 1 by a score of 13-2 in the 7th inning when they extended the lead to 11 on a Peyton Tyner 2 RBI single. Game 2 was much of the same, and the Titans won 13-9.
Game 1 saw the Penguins start strong with 2 scores in the top of the first inning. The two teams would trade scoreless innings until the Titans seemed to flip a switch and score 13 runs in three innings. Every Lane batter recorded at least one hit and seven different players hit at least one RBI. Tyner and Nolan Donivan both recorded - a game-high - 3 RBIs while teammate Cade Felts had two stolen bases. Griffins Scott pitched 3.0 innings and allowed just one hit and struckout 4.
Game 2 was similar in that the Penguins would score first after Kobin Mullins was hit by a pitch and one run scored. The Titans would answer with scores in five consecutive innings (one in 1st, one in 2nd, six in 3rd, one in 4th and four in 5th). The Penguins would make it interesting, but the Titans closed it out in the top of the 7th inning when catcher Trevor Devincenzi caught a popup with two outs. The final score would be 13-9.
The Penguins are back in town Saturday afternoon for two more games beginning at 12 p.m.
