Matt Dallas threw a complete-game shutout and the Titans won 1-0 and eliminate Skagit Valley.
How it happened: After five scoreless innings, Henry Lovekamp scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 5th to make it 1-0 Titans.
In the top of the 8th the Cardinals had their best offensive opportunity. With one out they got a walk and single. After a strikeout from Matt Dallas, Nathan Sprenger caught the runner at second trying to steal third to end the inning.
The Titans in the bottom half of the 8th had a chance to extend their 1-0 lead. Jack Swisher singled to lead off the inning and after a flyout by Curran Mitzel, Matthew Aguilar singled to put runners at first and third. Unfortunately, the next two batters were unable to come thru.
The top of the 9th was uneventful even though Matt Dallas was looking for the complete-game shutout. Dallas would sit down the 3-4-5 hitters in order for the 1-0 win.
What/who stood out: Back-to-back one run scored games for first time and tied for fewest runs in a two-game span since scoring two at Bellevue…Zero errors after a five and two error game…First CG SHO for a pitcher this season.
Matt Dallas started and went nine complete innings with no runs, three hits, one walk, seven strikeouts and only 105 pitches…Takanori Shimizu went 1-for-4…Nathan Sprenger went 1-for-3 with a runner caught stealing behind the plate…Henry Lovekamp went 1-for-3 with the lone run scored…Jack Swisher had the only multi-hit game and went 2-for-3…Matthew Aguilar added a hit in a 1-for-3 performance at shortstop.
